Abstract: The eucalypt, native to Australia and isolated areas of south-east Asia, is now the most widely grown commercial hardwood. Eucalypt plantations are grown in 70 or more countries on around 15 Mha of land and constitute approximately one quarter of all global plantations (Neilson, 2000).
